Important History of Iowa
Iowa was named after an indian, he named it Iowa meaning "The Beautiful Land."
Jacqes Marquette and Louis Joliet were the first french/European explorers to explore Iowa in 1673. Iowa was part of the Louisiana Purchase, there was alot of fighting between white settlers and indians, in the Black Hawk War in 1823, a lot of lands were taken. Iowa finally became a state in 1846, originally Iowa city was Iowa's capital in 1846, in 1857 Des Moines became the new capital.\
